Stepping on a cockroach. The worst thing that can ever happen to you! They are just small filthy beings that worship supremacy. They want to rule, torture you by showing their creepy crawls and don’t even talk about antennas! But how they survive? How are they able to live for years in the same house? What food attracts cockroaches?

Keep reading to get some interesting tips and see the food items that attract cockroaches the most:

Food Crumbs

It is best to keep the place clean if you don’t want roaches scurrying. This is because they love to eat the crumbs. Crumbs are actually the leftovers of food in small quantities that are usually on the plates or are on the floor. These crumbs can be of a delicious cake, milky bread or they can be of the chocolate cookie that you ate yesterday without telling your sister ????

The best practice is to carefully vacuum the floor, sweep away the particles or even use water. In this way, there will be no leftovers and hence there will be no debris for the roaches to eat. It’s never a bad idea to use a strong branded pesticide.

Sugar

Humans love to eat and so do the roaches! Candies, baked food items, and sweets, they can either consume them or just sniff for a while. Fruits are filled with natural sugars. They eat the discarded fruits when they are left open. Cockroaches also have the powerful smelling ability which lets them recognize the sugars from far away. The best practice is to tightly seal your sugary food items. Keep those items in the refrigerator or put in the boxes where cockroaches cannot enter.

Because of the bait practices for years, cockroaches can now sense danger in sugar. According to the researcher named Coby Schal of North Carolina State University, the cockroaches first sample the glucose and bounce back if they get the electric shock. This is a very clear behavior that they don’t want to ingest the glucose.

Meat

Cockroaches are omnivorous, which means they can feed themselves with not only plants but also the meat.

Fish, beef and chicken, all are apt for roaches’ appetite. They are canny and can determine the excellent source of protein and fat for nutritional benefits. So, they are strongly attracted toward the leftovers that have higher nutritional value.

Cheese

Don’t blame cockroaches for liking cheese because this food item is delicious for obvious. To keep roaches away, keep the cheese healthy and clean because once it rots, it produces a strong smell which eventually attracts the crawly miniatures. Just never let it decay and uncovered.

Cockroaches are attracted to volatile fatty acids, this is the reason why they love to eat fermented foods like bread. The smell that is released from our ears because of earwax is also attractive and hence the roaches crawl inside your ear. This can lead to ear infections, which is a whole new motif. Just leave it for now ????

Starch

It will not be wrong if we say that roaches are crazy for starch. They like to eat vegetables or any food items that contain starch. Rice, potatoes, peas and pasta, these nightmarish insects will eat them all. The love of starch drives them so mad that they even start munching papers, book bindings, cardboards, and discarded pizza boxes. They even do not mind eating clean cardboards! Some other food items that are high in starch are flour, oats, instant noodles and corn.

Some food items like osage orange oil and mint oil repel cockroaches, but let’s save this gist for the future.

Never let the food items open, always keep them in cabinets or boxes. It is always appropriate to use a pest control product like Advion cockroach gel to get rid of them effectively.
